On Wednesday, the business trade, Asia Biztech, reported that Nintendo intends to limit third-party for Dolphin to only three companies. Nintendo in Japan (via NoA) that there's more to the story. Nintendo has already given the greenlight for third party development to a very select group of third-parties in Japan. Later, it will start sending development material to other publishers. "[Nintendo Corporation Ltd.] has already started the software development for Dolphin with selected developers," a Nintendo spokesperson tells us. "However they are not providing the wide range of general developers with the development tools, etc. just yet." Apparently, Asia Biztech misconstrued a statement by an NCL executive (perhaps Chairman Yamauchi) to this effect to mean that the company would lock out other developers from the development process for Dolphin. An NoA spokesperson also confirms that NoA will work with "all the major third-party developer/publishers" in the future. Nintendo does not refute, however, Asia Biztech's report that Dolphin will not be backwards compatible with the N64. |
