Do you have a question? Or are you looking for an answer? Whatever it is, thanks for checking this section out. Of course, if you do have a question, just fill out the form below and click the "Send" button. Your question will be added to the growing list. Thank you. Q: If the Dolphin DID come out at $99, then how low would the price for the N64 need to be so people won't ignore that too soon. This logically means that the Dolphin won't be $99. :( A: I see you read the Howard Says... featurefrom two days ago. I figured this point would be made soon. What can I say but you are right, it will never happen. Of course, if the Dolphin came out at $199.99, logically, the N64 could be cut to $115 or somewhere around that. That's very logival isn't it? Q:Regarding the "The Dolphin".Will Nintendo be dumb again and stray away from full motion video (FMV)? I believe that FMV is very important because it's what gets you excited about a game. Seeing an incredible intro as in Gameday 99(psx). Makes you want to play the game with extreme excitement. Also it makes the Ending cinema of a game a whole lot better. So to FMV or not to FMV? A:Well, I asked Nintendo and they said they have no definite answer at this time. I will ask them again when the company decides to release a little more info about the 'Dolphin'. My guess is that the 'Dolphin' will use Full Motion Video (FMV) because they want to outshine every other Next-Gen system on the market. Q:"Is the new Dolphin System going to support Backward Compatibility with N64 Games?" And your answer is "Highly doubtful! Nintendo has not said anything about it though so maybe they are hiding something." Well, your wrong. Nintendo will NOT have backward compatability due to Dolphin being DVD and N64 being cartridge. It costs to much for the Dolphin to have it and to have a low price at the same time to compete with PSX2. I read it somewhere, unfortunately I forgot where. A:Good point! But, you never thought of something. I looked into it and found something out. It is 100% possible to make an add-on which can support the backward compatibility. Therefore, it is optional and will not increase to the base system. Q:If you crack open the bottom of NES, there is another port to put a cartridge of some kind...There is also one on the N64 (and just to say "this question is on 'Dolphin'... Will there be one on the 'Dolphin'?) The real question is...WHAT THE HELL IS THAT THING???!!! A:I suspect the "Dolphin" will also have this port you speak of. The port is actually there in case an extension for the main console is ever released/ On the cover for the N64 Port, you'll see 'EXT' which is short for 'Extension'. The 64DD (Dynamic Drive) was the supposed-to-be-released add-on for the N64 and it would have gone on through that port. Unfortunately, you won't see the 64DD unless you are Japanese. Q:At the Pre-E3 confrence, Howard Lincoln seemed extremely enthusiastic about the release of "Dolphin", despite the fact that "Dolphin's" Specs are not much more enhanced than the PlayStation 2 Specs (Considering the difference between the N64's specs and the PSX's). Exactly how much is Nintendo keeping under-wraps? A:Well, I suppose Nintendo Chairman, Howard Lincoln, has told us a few of the Specs, but I believe that Nintendo is hiding a lot from us at this time. Of course, the Specs are a little better than the PSX 2 but mot by far. We'll have to wait and see what else the company decides to tell us. Q:If Resident Evil 2 is successful for the N64, Does Nintendo have any interest in re-producing the Resident Evil series for the "Dolphin" A. Yes B. Capcom has not agreed A: All I can say is that if Resident Evil 2 is successful, expect another on the N64. As for seeing one on the 'Dolphin', I don't think Capcom has even thought about it at this time. They may make a decision after they see how popular Resident Evil 2 is on the N64. Q:To everyone that has an interest in the Nintendo of America. Why has Howard Lincon decided to NOT go forward with the DVD movie capability... A. So Nintendo can later release a DVD Movie Player and more more of a profit?
A:Hmm...you seem to like Multiple Cjoice questions! Okay, I choose 'A'! Nintendo has already announced that they may later release a DVD Movie Player. They will make more of a profit this way, if people want that option. Q:Is the new Dolphin System going to support Backward Compatibility with N64 Games? A:Highly doubtful! Nintendo has not said anything about it though so maybe they are hiding something. Q:Hi, I was wondering what NURB surface acceleration was and where I
could get some info on it?
A:NURBS has to do with the graphics in general. Here's all the info I could find on NURBS for you at this time. I will try for more in the future. Check back to PDC (http://pdcentral.cjb.net) in the future to find out more on the NURB Surface Acceleration. 1.Creation of surfaces with bounded slopes and curvatures. 2.Automatic detection and removal of abnormal surface curvatures. 3.Constrained modification capable of holding significant features of a model unchanged while globally or locally altering it. One more thing, in the past, NURBS was not used at all because it was too complicated and the technology to use it did not exist. It requires a lot of math, Trigonometry included, and it takes a lot of time to work with. NURBS stands for Non-Uniform Rational B-Splines. NURBS also present serious problems in the creation of seamless characters because the only way to attach NURBS together is through a really math intensive process of Trims and Blends. NURBS appear faster on the surface do to the promise of less control points to manipulate but there is a whole lot more math going on behind the scenes. Q:I have been a Nintendo fan for years and the thing about Nintendo is that the fun never stops. On the Dolphin, how many player sockets will there be? A:You are right on that, the fun really never does stop. There will probably only be four sockets, but you never know, Nintendo may come up and suprise us! Q:Well this doesn't really have to do with "Dolphin" but I'm hearing of a 32-bit Handheld system. Do you have any info on this? A:I do have some info on that....it's not true. :) If it is not from Nintendo of America, I wouldn't know anything about it...Sorry. Q:Will the net connection on the N2000 cost money? Can you surf the web on it? Can you play CD rom games on it? A:Okay, about the cost question, Nintendo has not yet officially confirmed the feature of internet connection yet. But, if it is, you will probably need to buy something extra for the option. Surfing the web will be possible if the Internet connection is featured in the system. And, I doubt you can play CD-ROM games on it because companies use protection on the games so they can be played one one system only such as PSX, N64, and PC. Q:I have 1 comment and 1 question. First the Dolphin will not be able To play disks. And my question is there has been a lot of speculation about Dolphin not being released on time, I want to know what your take on the situation? Do you believe the rumours? Is nintendo that stupid to lie to us like that? A:Hi, that's a lot of questions you have there. If you mean the Dolphin will not be able to play DVD disks, you are wrong, Nintendo has confirmed that feature. Now, for Music Discs, you could surely be right since I am not sure on that. I do indeed believe the rumours that the Dolphin will not be released on time because Nintendo has not exactly been too accurate on estimated release dates in the past. So, I guess we will have to wait till NOA makes an announcement on that issue. And, finally, yes, Nintendo IS stupid enough to do that! But, they do make great games every once in awhile! Q:First off I'd like to say that you maintain a great site, despite the fact you only have a little information on the 'Dolphin'. Now for the Question, someone asked how would you be able to save game data and you said some of the games would contain a battery like Zelda.Since DVDs & CDs are similar, how is it possible for DVDs to contain a battery and CDs can't contain battery? A:A little info? Why not check out the >A HREF="dolphinfaq.html">Dolphin FAQ? It has tons of info you can use!! Anyway, DVDs have much more room than a CD and they are different in a few ways. As for the saving issue, there will definitely memory cards and they will be mostly used if you are right about the battery issue. Thank you for pointing that out. Q:Is N2000 the final name for the new system? A:No, as far as everyone knows, N2000 is the name given by the press. The real name is not yet known. Q:Will the next zelda be on "Dolphin"? A:I believe it will be but apparently there is a sequel to Zelda 64 that could be released for the N64 by the end of this year! I'll look for more info on this soon. Q:Will it be able to play DVD movies and music disks? A:Movies will be playable on the Dolphin and as for disks, I believe you can play them too. So far, I think the system will rock! Q:When is the 'Dolphin' going to come out in Mexico? A:Nintendo is hoping to release the Dolphin worldwide by next Christmas so expect to see it there when it is released here in the US and Canada or soon after. Q:How will we be able to save game data? A:Expect to see some controller paks/memory paks but there will also be games that have a 'battery' so you can save on the cart like Zelda:Ocarina of Time. Q:How will the Dolphin's power compare to the Dreamcast? A:The Dolphin will be much more powerful than Sega's Dreamcast which I may remind you has only 64 Bits but you could pay more to have it upgraded to 128 Bits since it has the option. The Dolphin is 128 Bits and will be extremely powerful. Please read this article for more info on the power of the Dolphin. Q:Will the n2000 have four players capability for some games like its predecessor? A:Of course, you can surely expect to see four player games on the Dolphin! Maybe we will see some 8 player games...who knows? Q:Hey, can I get a pic of the system? A:No, Nintendo has not released ANY pictures of the N2000! All pictures you may have seen online are mock-ups. Q:The Dolphin has the potential, but will it live up to what it is said to be? A:How should I know? I know as much as you, maybe a little more. If what I have heard about the system is all true, and most of the great info in the Dolphin FAQ is also true, then the Dolphin will surely live up to the potential. Q:Will Squaresoft produce games for Nintendo 2000? A:Please read the Dolphin FAQ in the Features. Q:Is Zelda going to be on this new system "Dolphin"? A: This is unknown at the time but I believe it will be. Q:Will Dolphin have 128 or 256 bits, none of the Web Sites I've seen with Dolphin Specs. mention the amount of bits that the system will have? A:I am 90% sure the Dolphin will be 128-Bits. I could be wrong though. Q:Do you have any info on the next Zelda game? A:Not really, apparently, Ura-Zelda, an Add-On Cart or DVD for the 64DD, being released ONLY in Japan, has been talked about lately. I believe the next Zelda game will be on the N2000 though. I'll keep an eye out for more info. Q:Will you be able to play your Game Boy through the Dolphin? A:I have been looking into this and have asked Nintendo a few times. I will email them again and keep trying to find out more info on this subject. Q:What's EAD up to right now? A:EAD is currently working on two new projects that are little talked about at this time. They are Mario 64 2(II) and one that I myself am looking forward to, 1080 Snowboarding 2. I guess we can also mention Miyamoto and his "powerhouse team" is working on Mario, and maybe, a new Zelda game! Q:Who will some of the Developers be? A:You can surely expect to see some great games coming from developers such as Nintendo, Rare, Konami, Hudson and Acclaim. All of the long time developers are expected to stay with Nintendo. Interested developers include the following companies: Q:Will the Dolphin be backward comaptible? A:Playstation 2 will be bacward compatible with the Playstation but Nintendo has not yet commented on whether its new hardware will be backward compatible. It would be quite a surprise if we gamers were able to shove an "ancient" NES cartridge into your N2000. Maybe Nintendo will surprise us with this option. Q:Will some games have 4-Player support? A:Of course! The Dolphin/N2000 will support 4 players for many of its games. There will be 4 controller ports on the system. I hope they make an adaptor of some sort that allows 8 players. Remember, the will also have internet connection so you can play games on a network! Q:What will the system's audio capabilities be like? A:Like the Nintendo 64, the N2000 will not have an internal sound chip. This created problems for N64, as its storage media was so limited. Both formats Nintendo is considering have massive amounts of storage space, Redbook Audio capabilities and Surround-like quality, this is not a concern. Overall, the N2000 will have excellent sound. Q:I've heard the Dolphin will work closely with Game Boy Color. What have you heard on this? A:I have not heard anytihng about this yet but I am looking into it and have asked Nintendo about it. I have not heard back from them yet though. More to come. Q:When will Game Development begin? A:A few developers such as Rare, already have development kits and have supposedly been working on games for the Dolphin for quite a while now. It is unknown as to what the exact number of developers have the kits at this time. Q:What is DVD? A:DVD stands for Digital Video Disc that has incredible storage capacity. It is much cheaper to produce than cartridges and it can hold much more than a cartridge can. Q:If Sony is also using DVD, will Nintendo's games and Sony's games be biocompatible? A:I really doubt that because Nintendo and Sony seem to keep to themselves. I'll try to find out more on that. Don't count on that ever happening in the near future. Q:What kind of "goodies" will come with having DVD for the format of the games? How do they compare to cartridges? A:Well, first of all, DVD discs cost much less to produce than cartridges. So, you and all us other gamers can expect to see cheaper prices for games. Also, DVD may convince game developers to return and produce games for Nintendo. Many developers left Nintendo in the past because cartridges were too costly for them to produce. Q:I heard that the "dolphin" will cost under $200...Have you heard anything about the cost? A:Nothing is definite right now but according to Nintendo of America chairman, Howard Lincoln, the "Dolphin" will be cheap. Nintendo plans to release the system at a mass market price. The games will definitely be cheaper because of DVD format. Q:Is Nintendo going to stick to its "kiddy" image or are they finally going to grow up?! A:Hmm...I really can't tell you the answer to that one. As you may realize, many developers left Nintendo in the past because carts costed too much. Maybe, now that Nintendo is using DVD, some developers will return and make us some good games. Rare is still with Nintendo and they're great developers...don't tell me that Banjo-Kazooie was not fun! I guess we'll have to wait and see if Nintendo matures or not. Q:Do you know how the system will fair with other systems like Dreamcast and PSX2? A:Personally, I do not think that Sega's Dreamcast has a chance! Sega released the Dreamcast too early and it only has a 64-Bit processor, same as the Nintendo 64, while PSX2 and the Dolphin will have 128-Bit processor. Plus, Sony and Nintendo wil use DVD format for their games, making them cheaper and hopefully better. Overall, Sega has no chance of contending against the other Next-Generation systems. Q:What is Project Dolphin? A:Project Dolphin is the codename for Nintendo's next-generation gaming system. This is a codename only so don't go asking a store for a "Project Dolphin". You can find more info on the system in the Hardware or News sections. Q:How will the developers keep counterfeit away from the new system? A:Well, right now, Nintendo has not said how they will prevent piracy but they seem to be very convinced that it will be either impossible or, "challenge" for anyone to copy their games. I'll try to find out more. Q:How will you put the movies and music discs in when the idea is to have a hard case over the DVD games? A:Hmm..I'm not quite sure as to what exaclty you mean but I think I'll say something anyways. Remember that it will be a DVD drive, therefore, you can put a movie or music disc in whenever you want. Simple enough if you ask me. Q:When will the "Dolphin" be released in the United States and Canada? A:Nintendo is aiming to release their new system world wide around the same time as Sony releases the "Playstation II" which should be late in the year 2000. Expect it before the next Christmas season. Q:Will Nintendo still use cartridges? A:No, the company recently announced that they will switch to the DVD format for their games. This means cheaper games and maybe more games overall. Many developers left Nintendo's side in the past because cartridges were too expensive for them to develop. |
